PlayStation’s New Game “Concord” Gets Axed Just Weeks After Launch

PlayStation announced that it will take its new live services game “Concord,” developed by Firewalk, offline this Friday, just two weeks after its launch on August 23. The team-based first-person shooter has reportedly attracted an unusually low number of players, with service data from SteamDB indicating only 30 players currently in-game on Tuesday. The game peaked at 697 concurrent players, a figure that is significantly low for a new release on PlayStation, resulting in poor rankings on PlayStation’s weekly sales charts.

“Concord” is designed for multiplayer battles, allowing players to form teams of five Freegunner space outlaws aboard the spacecraft Northstar. However, the small player base has made it challenging to find matches in the game.

Ryan Ellis, game director at Firewalk Studios, shared a message on PlayStation’s blog, thanking players for their support and feedback since the game’s launch. He acknowledged that while some aspects of “Concord” resonated with players, others fell short of expectations. Consequently, the team has decided to take the game offline starting September 6, 2024, to explore new options to better connect with their audience. Immediate sales of “Concord” will stop, and full refunds will be issued to all players who purchased the game for PlayStation 5 or PC.

Refunds will be processed back to the original payment method for those who bought “Concord” from the PlayStation Store or PlayStation Direct, while players who obtained the game through Steam, Epic Games Store, or physical copies will receive refunds via those platforms or retailers. After receiving refunds, players will lose access to “Concord.”
