PlayStation Pulls the Plug on “Concord” After Two Weeks: What’s Next?

PlayStation has announced that it will take its newly developed live service game, “Concord,” offline this Friday, just two weeks after it was launched on August 23. The team-based first-person shooter, created by Firewalk Studios, has reportedly attracted an exceptionally low player base during its brief availability on PlayStation 5 and PC. Data from SteamDB indicated that there were only 30 players in the game at the time of publication, with a peak of just 697 concurrent players—figures notably low for a new release on PlayStation.

In “Concord,” which has drawn comparisons to the popular multiplayer shooter “Overwatch,” players form teams of five and take on the role of Freegunner space outlaws aboard the spacecraft Northstar. Due to the limited number of participants, finding matches had become increasingly challenging.

Ryan Ellis, game director at Firewalk Studios, expressed gratitude to the community in a blog post on Tuesday, stating that the team had been attentive to player feedback since the game’s launch. He noted that while some aspects resonated with players, others did not meet expectations. As a result, the decision was made to take “Concord” offline starting September 6, 2024, while exploring potential improvements.

PlayStation has also stated that all purchases of “Concord” will be fully refunded. Customers who bought the game via the PlayStation Store or PlayStation Direct will receive refunds to their original payment methods. Those who purchased it on Steam, Epic Games Store, or via physical copies will have to go through those respective platforms for their refunds. After the refund process, players will lose access to the game.
