Following the success of Nintendo’s Switch 2, Sony is enhancing its PlayStation Portal device, enabling it to stream thousands of games independently from a PS5 console. As of today, PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers can stream an extensive library of games, including popular titles like Grand Theft Auto 5, Borderlands 4, and the newly released Ghost of Yōtei.

The streaming service includes hundreds of titles from both the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and the Classics Catalog, featuring acclaimed games such as Hogwarts Legacy, Cyberpunk 2077, and God of War Ragnarök. In total, Sony’s supported game list exceeds 2,800 titles.

While cloud streaming through the PlayStation Portal has been available in beta for nearly a year, today’s launch marks its official rollout. Sony aims to showcase the unique gaming possibilities the Portal presents. The device allows users not only to enjoy games in varied situations, such as streaming while in the bathroom, but also to engage in multiplayer experiences. For instance, a friend can use a PS5 on a main television while another player enjoys a game on the Portal simultaneously.

The full launch of cloud streaming also brings new features, including 3D Audio Support, a passcode lock for added security, a network status screen, game invites, accessibility options, and the ability to make in-game purchases during streaming sessions.

For those interested in trying out the PlayStation Portal, it is available for $199, and consumers can choose between black and white colors. According to IGN’s review, the PlayStation Portal represents “the best PlayStation 5 Remote Play solution available,” highlighting its enhanced functionality and user experience. This new chapter in gaming technology reflects Sony’s commitment to evolving how players access and enjoy their favorite titles, bringing more flexibility and enjoyment to gaming.
