The Pittsburgh area is currently under a winter weather advisory as snow is expected today and into Tuesday. The National Weather Service has designated today and tomorrow as First Alert Weather Days due to the likelihood of accumulating snow in various locations.
Snow showers, combined with quickly dropping temperatures, may lead to isolated slick spots on the roads. The winter weather advisories extend until 1 p.m. Tuesday for the Ridges and the areas along and north of I-80. Although the Laurel Highlands do not currently have an advisory due to higher thresholds, significant snowfall is also anticipated in that region.
Forecasts indicate that places along and north of I-80, as well as in the Laurel Highlands and Ridges, could see total snow accumulations ranging from 2 to 4 inches, primarily during the overnight hours. Even areas not covered by advisories may experience icy road conditions that could pose risks for drivers.
According to the KDKA Weather Center, the high temperature for today is expected to reach the mid-30s, with morning lows around the low 30s. As the night approaches, temperatures are predicted to plummet into the low 20s, potentially freezing any moisture that falls and creating hazardous driving conditions.
Winter weather advisories will remain in effect until tomorrow afternoon, and forecasts suggest the possibility of another quick-moving system that could bring light snow Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning. Additionally, a wintry mix could be seen later in the week, from Wednesday to Thursday.
This early-season snowfall serves as a reminder for residents to stay cautious while navigating the roads, especially during potential icy conditions. However, a warm front is expected to move through on Sunday, indicating a brief respite from the cold before winter weather returns.
