PITTSBURGH — The Pitt Panthers football team showcased its strength on Thursday night with a decisive 41-13 victory over Syracuse at Acrisure Stadium. The win helped the Panthers maintain their undefeated record and marked a significant milestone in what has been a historic season for the team, now boasting a 7-0 record—its best start since 1982.
Fans were excited for the primetime clash, especially with football legend Larry Fitzgerald present to witness the rivalry. The crisp fall weather provided an ideal backdrop for the anticipated matchup, leaving Pitt supporters in high spirits.
“I didn’t think we would be this good. We’re undefeated, so I’m living life right now. It’s great,” said Pitt fan Jack Galbraith. Senior Richie Donato expressed enthusiasm ahead of kickoff, stating, “I cannot wait for this game. It’s going to be awesome.”
The 2023 season has been a turnaround for the Panthers, especially compared to last year, when they managed only three wins. Supporters attribute much of the team’s success to the performance of quarterback Eli Holstein. “Eli is balling out. He’s killing it, so I’d say quarterback is the biggest turnaround,” Donato noted.
Amid the excitement, fans remain cautiously optimistic. They understand the challenges ahead and know that every game from this point on is crucial. “There’s nobody on our schedule that we can’t beat. There’s nobody on our schedule that can’t beat us,” said fan Tom Bailey.
With new expectations set, supporters are hopeful that the Panthers can continue their momentum in the latter half of the season. “Win 10 games and win a bowl game. That’s the expectation in my mind right now,” Galbraith concluded.
