Pitbull Makes History with Stadium Naming Deal at FIU

International music icon Pitbull is set to make history by securing the naming rights for Florida International University’s football stadium, now known as Pitbull Stadium. The FIU board of trustees approved a five-year agreement on Tuesday, which will see the artist pay the university $1.2 million annually.

The deal marks a significant milestone, as FIU becomes the first university to have a sports facility named after a musical artist. Pitbull, whose real name is Armando Christian Perez and who is affectionately known as “Mr. 305,” voiced his pride over the collaboration, highlighting Miami’s underdog spirit. He expressed his connection to the university and his desire to promote recognition for its efforts in education, business, and sports.

“This is history in the making,” Pitbull stated. He believes that this groundbreaking move will inspire other universities to follow suit but emphasized the heartfelt nature of the partnership rather than promotional motives. In addition to the naming rights, Pitbull will compose an anthem for FIU, engage with the community through social media, and participate in annual fundraising events.

Under the terms of the agreement, Pitbull will have access to the stadium for ten days each year, and his vodka brand will be featured prominently in the venue. He will also receive two reserved suites for all home games.

FIU’s athletic director, Scott Carr, praised the partnership as a transformative opportunity for the university. He expressed confidence that Pitbull’s involvement will significantly enhance FIU’s brand and community outreach.

The Panthers, who have faced challenges in recent seasons, are scheduled to host Central Michigan on September 7 for the debut game in Pitbull Stadium.
