Detroit guard Jaden Ivey will be sidelined for a minimum of four weeks after undergoing an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee, a decision announced by the team on Thursday. The surgery was performed to address discomfort in Ivey’s knee and is not connected to a previous injury, specifically the broken left fibula he sustained during his 30th game last season.
Following the procedure, Ivey will begin rehabilitation on his knee and is expected to be re-evaluated in four weeks. The young guard is heading into his fourth season with the Pistons after being selected fifth overall in the 2022 NBA Draft out of Purdue University. In his first two seasons, he participated in 74 and 77 games, respectively. Unfortunately, his most recent season was abruptly cut short due to his leg injury.
At just 23 years old, Ivey has been a promising player for the Pistons, boasting averages of 16.1 points and 4.4 assists per game. Notably, he was scoring at a career-best rate of 17.6 points per game before his injury last season, demonstrating significant improvement in his offensive capabilities, including a 40.9% success rate from beyond the arc.
Ivey participated in one preseason game this year, contributing seven points and one assist across 13 minutes. The Pistons wrapped up their four-game preseason schedule on Thursday night against the Washington Wizards at Little Caesars Arena.
This ongoing situation marks a challenging moment for the Pistons and their fans as they look forward to Ivey’s return to the court. His recovery will be closely monitored, and the team remains hopeful for a swift and successful rehabilitation process.
