Pinktober in Fiji gains momentum as hotel group backs breast cancer awareness

The Fiji Cancer Society has recently received a generous donation of $10,000 from the Tanoa Hotel Group, marking the start of Pinktober, a month dedicated to breast cancer awareness, in Fiji. This contribution was celebrated at a Pinktober walk organized by the Tanoa Hotel Group at MySuva Park. Narend Kumar, the group’s area General Manager, emphasized the longstanding relationship between Tanoa Hotel Group and the Fiji Cancer Society. Since its inception in 2015, the Reddy Foundation, the charitable wing of Tanoa Group, has consistently supported various health, education, poverty alleviation, and disaster relief initiatives across Fiji and the Pacific.

Kumar urged the importance of early cancer detection, stating that breast cancer remains one of the most prevalent cancers affecting women in the region, including Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, New Zealand, and the broader Pacific. Early detection, he noted, can be life-saving.

Belinda Chan, Chief Executive of the Fiji Cancer Society, expressed immense gratitude for Tanoa’s unwavering support. She highlighted that Tanoa’s assistance was crucial even during challenging times like the COVID-19 pandemic. Their contributions have not only aided in the society’s operations but also provided significant support for patients and their families through groceries, medications, and even the construction of new facilities.

The Pinktober event drew together families, friends, and cancer survivors to kick off a month-long dedication to raising awareness about breast cancer in Fiji. Similar initiatives by other organizations, like Telecom Fiji and local hotels, have also demonstrated the community’s commitment to combating cancer by raising funds and spreading awareness.

The combined efforts of businesses and organizations during Pinktober underscore a powerful message of solidarity and support. These initiatives foster hope and resilience within communities, illustrating how collective action can drive meaningful change and support individuals in their fight against cancer.
