Disney Branded Television has officially approved the production of a new Phineas and Ferb movie, which will be the third installment in the beloved time-warp adventure series. Co-creators Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh are set to lead the project, which is scheduled to begin production this year and will ultimately be available on Disney+ and the Disney Channel.
The storyline revolves around Dr. Doofenshmirtz, whose latest time-travel experiment goes awry, resulting in the erasure of the critical moment when Phineas’ mother meets Ferb’s father. This catastrophic glitch means that the boys never become brothers, leading to a mundane existence instead of the adventurous lives they are known for. As the fabric of reality begins to unravel and the future hangs in jeopardy, Phineas and Ferb will have to embark on a mission to restore the timeline before it’s too late.
Fans of the series will be delighted to hear that the original voice cast is returning for this film. This includes Vincent Martella as Phineas Flynn, David Errigo Jr. as Ferb Fletcher, Ashley Tisdale as Candace Flynn, and more, ensuring that the well-loved characters remain familiar to audiences.
Ayo Davis, the president of Disney Branded Television, expressed excitement about the project, stating, “‘Phineas and Ferb’ is built on imagination, heart and humor, where the unexpected is always part of the fun. This movie gives Dan and Swampy the chance to stretch that world even further and play with what happens when everything gets turned on its head.”
Povenmire and Marsh shared their enthusiasm for exploring themes of family and unconditional love within a narrative that balances boldness, sentimentality, and humor. They thanked Davis and her team for supporting them in this creative endeavor.
The announcement follows the successful fifth season premiere of Phineas and Ferb last summer, which recorded strong ratings and placed in Nielsen’s Streaming Top 10, garnering nearly 600 million minutes of viewing time.
Since its debut in 2008, the Emmy-winning and BAFTA-nominated series has achieved remarkable success, becoming the top animated series for children aged 6-11 and tweens aged 9-14 in Disney Television Animation history. The franchise has previously enjoyed two successful television movies, with “Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension” and “Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe” both achieving notable viewership records on streaming platforms.
As anticipation builds for this new film, fans are hopeful that it will capture the charm and creativity that have made Phineas and Ferb a cherished part of children’s entertainment. The return of the original voice cast and the rich, imaginative storytelling promise a delightful experience for both new viewers and long-time fans alike.
