Mike Missanelli’s tenure at 97.5 The Fanatic has come to an abrupt end after just under a year, as the station confirmed his departure came on Friday. Beasley Media Group expressed gratitude for Missanelli’s contributions in a statement released to the Philadelphia Inquirer, with Heidi Raphael, the company’s chief communications officer, wishing him well in future endeavors.
Missanelli had been hosting the midday show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., primarily alongside co-hosts Ray Dunne and, until recently, Bill Colarulo. Following Missanelli’s exit, Dunne will take on the role of interim host, while a rotating lineup of contributors will fill in for the time being.
Colarulo, who has transitioned to afternoon programming, spoke earlier this year about the advantages of having additional support in the studio, noting that it allows for more dynamic conversations with listeners.
This departure echoes Missanelli’s previous exit from the station in May 2022, marking the end of a notable 15-year stint in afternoon drive, where he became a prominent figure in Philadelphia sports talk radio. His return last summer was anticipated as a fresh beginning, aiming to engage a midday audience with his established rapport.
While the announcement has been made, the specific reasons for Missanelli’s exit have not been disclosed, marking another chapter in his career filled with unexpected turns.
As the station moves forward, there is optimism surrounding the opportunity for fresh voices and new dynamics to blossom in the midday slot, potentially capturing the interest of a diverse audience while maintaining the essence of Philadelphia’s sports talk culture.
