Philly Showdown: Hofstra Wrestling Takes on No. 23 Penn as Slotnick Climbs Rankings

The Hofstra University wrestling team is set to compete in Philadelphia this weekend, facing off against No. 23 Penn in a dual match on Saturday at noon, followed by participation in the Keystone Classic on Sunday. Both events will be held at the historic Palestra.

Fans can catch Saturday’s dual match streaming live on ESPN+, while Sunday’s Keystone Classic will be available on FloCollege starting at 9:30 a.m. More details and links to watch can be found on the wrestling schedule page at GoHofstra.com.

Currently, Hofstra holds a 1-3 record for the season, coming off a tough 32-6 defeat against Columbia last Sunday. Meanwhile, Penn boasts a 1-0 record after achieving a decisive 36-6 victory over Campbell aboard the USS Yorktown CV-10.

A standout for Hofstra, Jake Slotnick, secured a significant nationally-ranked win against Columbia and has now climbed to No. 29 in the College Wrestling Report and No. 33 in FloWrestling. Slotnick is leading the team with eight wins so far this season.

For the dual match against Penn, Hofstra’s probable lineup includes:

– Teague Strobel (125)
– Gauge Shipp (133)
– Frank Volpe (157)
– Jake Slotnick (165) – #33
– Jurius Clark (174)
– Matthew Waddell (184)
– Will Conlon (197)

The Keystone Classic lineup features many of the same grapplers, with the notable inclusion of Slotnick at 165 pounds.

Following this competitive weekend, Hofstra will have a break before returning to action on December 7, when they will host Wisconsin at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex at 2 p.m. This upcoming event provides an excellent opportunity for Hofstra wrestlers to showcase their talents and build momentum for the rest of the season.
