The Philadelphia Phillies are welcoming back left-hander Tim Mayza after he was re-signed to a minor league contract for the upcoming season. This development comes as the team prepares for spring training. Mayza, who has previously pitched for the Blue Jays and Yankees, joined the Phillies last September after being claimed off waivers from the Pirates. During his time with the team, he appeared in eight games and recorded a 4.91 ERA. Although he was included on the postseason roster for the Division Series against the Dodgers, he did not get a chance to pitch.

In another move, utility player Weston Wilson has been claimed off waivers by the Baltimore Orioles. The Phillies made this transaction to clear space on their 40-man roster for J.T. Realmuto, who was designated for assignment earlier in the week. Wilson made his MLB debut with the Phillies in 2023 following an extensive minor league career in the Brewers organization. Over the last three seasons, he served as a dependable depth option, highlighted by a significant achievement on August 15, 2024, when he became the 10th player in Phillies history to hit for the cycle.

Wilson also distinguished himself in the minor leagues, hitting a record-setting 31 home runs for the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs in the 2023 season. With the Phillies, he compiled a batting average of .242 with nine home runs and a .756 OPS over 245 plate appearances.

As the Phillies gear up for spring training, the return of familiar faces like Mayza and the transitions involving Wilson mark a period of change and opportunity for the team, reinforcing their commitment to strengthening their roster for the upcoming season.
