Several school districts in the Philadelphia area have announced delays and closures due to dangerously cold weather and strong winds that are expected to create hazardous wind chills and blowing snow throughout Monday. Although snowfall across the region is starting to subside, the impacts of the ongoing storm are still significant.

The snowstorm, which began late Saturday, resulted in widespread accumulations of 1 to 5 inches. Some areas, particularly along the I-95 corridor into southern New Jersey and northern Delmarva, experienced heavier snowfall, with rates of nearly an inch per hour in places. As the snow moves out, forecasters warn that strong winds will increase, with gusts reaching 25 to 40 mph. This will lead to areas of blowing snow, making roads hazardous once again and limiting visibility in several locations.

Wind chills are forecasted to drop into the single digits in Philadelphia, with below-zero temperatures expected in the Poconos by late Sunday into Monday. As the region braces for these frigid conditions, motorists are advised to exercise caution when traveling.

Looking ahead, temperatures will remain below freezing from Monday into Tuesday; however, a gradual warming trend is anticipated to begin on Wednesday, providing some relief from the extreme cold. For those planning to be on the road or engage in outdoor activities, it is important to stay informed about the latest weather updates and any school or road advisories.
