The 2024 Tour Championship took place on Sunday at East Lake Golf Club, wrapping up the PGA Tour season with the largest prize fund in history. The total FedEx Cup bonus pool reached an impressive $100 million, a significant increase of $25 million from the previous year, drawing in the top 30 players vying for their portion of the lucrative purse.
Throughout the season, signature events and the initial two playoff events offered a combined purse of $20 million, which is $5 million less than the payout for this week’s champion. With a $7 million increase compared to the last two seasons, this year’s winner will receive the highest share in PGA Tour history, marking a $10 million rise since 2019, when the staggered start format was introduced.
Scottie Scheffler distinguished himself as the only player exceeding $25 million in earnings this season, fueled by victories at the Masters, Players Championship, and four signature events—six of the year’s biggest paydays. Close behind was Xander Schauffele, nearing the $20 million mark with two major wins, while players like Hideki Matsuyama, Wyndham Clark, and Rory McIlroy also finished with earnings above $10 million in 2024.
The final showdown saw Scheffler and Collin Morikawa, despite Morikawa’s winless season, engage in a competitive race. Ultimately, Scheffler clinched his seventh PGA Tour victory at 30 under, earning the largest payout in golf history.
Players finishing in the top five were guaranteed at least a $5 million bonus, with those in the top 12 ensuring seven-figure earnings. Every competitor in the field received a minimum of $500,000 for qualifying for the Tour Championship.
The payout breakdown for the top 30 players at the 2024 Tour Championship reflects the substantial rewards available. The remaining 120 players in the FedEx Cup standings will share an additional $17.05 million.
