STEUBENVILLE — Actor Peter Lawson Jones is set to make a special appearance in the Ohio Valley to attend a screening of a feature film in which he holds a major supporting role. This event is part of the Ohio Goes to the Movies celebration, organized in conjunction with the America 250-Ohio initiative, which highlights the contributions of Ohioans in the film industry.

The screening will take place at the Brilliant Branch Library at 1 p.m. on March 12, and the film is adapted from Fredrik Backman’s novel, “A Man Called Ove.” However, due to licensing restrictions, the library is unable to disclose the film’s title publicly. Interested moviegoers can visit the library’s website, call, or stop by any branch to learn more.

Jones, who has a diverse background in both the arts and public service, expressed his excitement about promoting Ohio’s rich cinematic heritage. “I am honored to be traveling the state on behalf of Ohio Goes to the Movies,” he said. “I can’t wait to join my friends in Brilliant to discuss the film that will be screened there this month. I’m elated that we’re making this wonderful movie available for free at the Steubenville and Jefferson County Library.”

Born in Cleveland, Jones has an extensive resume that includes former roles as a Shaker Heights city councilman, Cuyahoga County commissioner, and state representative. In addition to his acting work, he is currently a member of the Ohio Arts Council and plays the lead in “The Last Shop on Walnut,” a feature-length film set to be released this spring.

Library public relations coordinator Jenn Cesta stated, “We’re beyond thrilled that Peter is joining us to watch the movie. Afterward, he’ll discuss its filmmaking and sign autographs.” The library has planned a screening at each of its branches and is also hosting two outdoor community movie events, one in June and another in September, showcasing the emphasis on community engagement through film.

For those interested in attending the screening, more detailed information can be found on the library’s website steubenvillelibrary.org, or by calling (740) 314-4309 to reserve a seat at the Brilliant Branch. This initiative not only celebrates Ohio’s cinematic talents but also aims to bring the community together to enjoy and engage with the arts.
