Peter Criss, the iconic drummer of KISS, celebrated his 80th birthday on December 20, just a day after launching his first solo album in 18 years. The album, which carries his name, has already achieved notable success, reaching No. 1 on the iTunes Rock Albums chart and No. 6 across all genres, as Criss proudly announced on his Instagram. In his post, he expressed gratitude to his fans, saying, “WOW!! THANK YOU KISS ARMY!! 💚”

The new album is available not only digitally but also in various formats, including black, silver, and white vinyl, as well as on CD. Fans welcomed the album’s success with enthusiastic comments, sharing how Criss has influenced their lives over his long career. One fan remarked, “50 years ago, it was YOU who made me pick up a pair of drumsticks and choose the life path I’m on to this day. We still love you, Peter—Happy birthday, Catman!💚🤘🏻”

Musicians and friends also celebrated Criss’s latest achievement. Bassist Billy Sheehan, who has worked with numerous bands, commented on Criss’s post, saying, “Awesome!!! Such an honor to be on this record!!✌️🤘👍”. Other notable contributors to the album include Mötley Crüe guitarist John 5 and former Late Show band leader Paul Schaffer.

Peter Criss, born George Peter John Criscuola in Brooklyn, NY, on December 20, 1945, is well-known for his “Catman” persona and his role in KISS from its inception in 1973 until 1980. He famously co-wrote the band’s celebrated ballad “Beth,” which peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1976. While the band released solo albums in 1978, this recent effort is significant as it marks his return to solo work. His previous album, One for All, was released in 2007.

Sadly, Criss recently lost his former KISS bandmate Ace Frehley, who passed away on October 16 after an unfortunate fall. Frehley was 74 years old at the time of his death.

Despite the loss, Criss’s birthday and album launch serve as a reminder of his enduring legacy and impact in the music world, showcasing that even through adversity, the spirit of rock and roll—along with the love and support of fans—continues to thrive.
