Pepsi is launching a new partnership with DoorDash to capitalize on high pizza ordering on Friday, September 13, as part of a vibrant promotional campaign. According to a press release, customers who purchase specific Pepsi products and meet a minimum spending requirement through DoorDash will have a chance to win a free pizza. The participating pizza chains include Little Caesars, Papa Johns, Pizza Hut, and Marco’s Pizza.
The initiative features a lively and humorous advertising campaign produced in collaboration with BBDO Worldwide, showcasing “Pepsi Chase Cars” that race to guarantee pizza deliveries are paired with Pepsi.
Pepsi is looking to tap into the anticipated rise in pizza orders, leveraging the trend of Friday nights where almost 43% of pizza orders occur, as noted in the release. The brand plans to distribute “tens of thousands” of complimentary pizzas to qualifying customers from 4-10 p.m. ET while supplies last. By teaming up with major chains, Pepsi aims to enhance its visibility and accessibility across the United States.
The promotional video features a comedic chase where pizza delivery drivers are pursued by a Pepsi-themed sports car, emphasizing the importance of having Pepsi with the pizza. The lighthearted clip concludes with customers enjoying both their soda and pizza, amusingly frustrating the delivery drivers. The campaign also shares additional humorous clips and bloopers across platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and TikTok. This effort aligns with Pepsi’s #BetterWithPepsi campaign, which promotes pairing the drink with various food options, having previously highlighted fast-food burgers and cola-infused pepperoni.
Pepsi’s focus on pizza is complemented by other initiatives as well, such as a promotional campaign featuring Megan Thee Stallion and several NFL stars to celebrate the start of the 2024 NFL season and the upcoming release of “Gladiator II.”
