Arena in Louisville, Kentucky. The Nittany Lions triumphed with scores of 25-23, 32-34, 25-20, and 25-17, with Camryn Hannah delivering the decisive kill that sealed the championship.
This victory marks a significant moment in history as Penn State’s head coach, Katie Schumacher-Cawley, becomes the first woman to lead a Division I volleyball team to a national championship title in NCAA history. During a post-match interview with ESPN, Schumacher-Cawley expressed her gratitude to those who paved the way for her career and emphasized her hope that her achievement will inspire more women to pursue coaching roles in the sport.
The Nittany Lions have now secured their eighth national championship, placing them second in NCAA volleyball history, and this victory is especially noteworthy as it is their first title in over a decade. Despite that setback, Penn State regrouped in the third and fourth sets, displaying their dominant play with a final attack percentage of .277 compared to Louisville’s .196. Mruzik was particularly impressive, registering 29 kills, alongside 14 digs and five blocks, earning her the title of NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player.
