A psychiatric evaluation report for Charles Laxton Sundar, who faces charges for the alleged murder and dismemberment of his 86-year-old grandfather, remains pending. During a recent court hearing at the High Court in Suva, Mr. Sundar’s lawyer, Andala Dean, informed Justice Usaia Ratuvili that no written court order existed for Mr. Sundar’s evaluation at St Giles Hospital.
The 25-year-old is accused of slitting the throat of his grandfather, Emori Rokovuki, and subsequently dismembering the body in Lutu, Wainibuka, on July 12, 2025. In response to these allegations, Justice Ratuvili has instructed that Mr. Sundar be taken to St Giles Hospital for a necessary psychiatric assessment, following which he will be held in custody.
The court has been awaiting this evaluation report since November 2025, aiming to determine Mr. Sundar’s mental fitness to enter a plea. As a result, he currently remains in custody, with the case adjourned until March 10 for further proceedings. This ongoing legal case underscores the complexities entailed in mental health assessments and their significant impact on the judicial process, shedding light on the intersection of law and mental health.
