HOUSTON — Houston Astros shortstop Jeremy Peña is set to begin his rehabilitation assignment at Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday night as he works his way back from a small rib fracture sustained on June 27 when he was hit by a pitch during a game against the Chicago Cubs.
Over the weekend, the 27-year-old participated in live batting practice at the Astros’ spring training facility in Florida and completed workouts with the team at Daikin Park on Monday prior to their matchup against the Washington Nationals. Although it remains uncertain how many games Peña will require in the minor leagues before rejoining the Astros, the start of his rehabilitation is promising news for a team currently dealing with multiple injuries.
This season, Peña has enjoyed a strong performance, boasting a .322 batting average, 11 home runs, 40 RBIs across 82 games, in addition to 18 doubles and 15 stolen bases. His return could provide a significant boost to the Astros as they aim to overcome their injury challenges.
In a season where injuries have impacted the team’s performance, Peña’s impending return promises to bring fresh energy and talent back to the lineup, signaling hope for better days ahead as the team pushes for success.
