Peloton Recalls 833,000 Bike Plus Units Over Seat-Post Breakage

Peloton is recalling approximately 833,000 of its original Bike Plus machines following concerns raised by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the seat post of the bikes can break and detach during use, leading to reports of injuries from falls. To date, Peloton has received three reports of seat post breakages and two associated injury claims.

The affected Bike Plus units were sold from January 2020 through April 2025, and were manufactured in Taiwan between 2019 and 2022. They were available directly from Peloton, as well as from third-party retailers such as Dick’s Sporting Goods, eBay, and Amazon. Owners of the Bike Plus can identify whether their unit is impacted by checking for the model number PL02 and serial numbers that start with the letter “T.” To address the issue, Peloton is providing a free replacement for the redesigned seat post, which owners can install themselves.

It’s worth noting that the recall does not impact Peloton’s new Bike Plus Cross Training series, which debuted in October. Marcio Oliveira, Peloton’s senior vice president of Global Hardware Operations and Product Safety, emphasized the company’s commitment to product integrity and customer safety, stating that they encourage affected users to contact them for the new seat post as soon as possible.

This recent recall marks the second time Peloton has had to address issues related to bike seat posts. In 2023, the company recalled 2 million units of the base model original Bike due to similar concerns, which included 35 reports of breakages and 13 injuries. While both the original Bike and Bike Plus share features, they employ slightly different seat post designs.

The timing of this announcement is particularly significant as Peloton is set to report its earnings later today. This quarter is especially critical for the company as it follows a major hardware update and the introduction of a new AI fitness coaching feature. The proactive measures taken by Peloton in this recall highlight the company’s focus on customer safety and their ongoing commitment to enhancing user experience amidst product innovations.
