Former Post Fiji employee Paula Ramasiga is scheduled to face trial for corruption-related offenses in the Sigatoka Magistrates Court. Resident Magistrate Joseph Daurewa indicated that the State has provided sufficient evidence to support a prima facie case against her.
Ramasiga is charged with theft, general dishonesty, and falsification of documents, relating to the alleged misappropriation of nearly $18,000 along with Post Office stock between August 2017 and June 2018. Additional allegations include falsifying a telegram receipt and a $13,000 payment voucher in April 2018 while at Keiyasi, Navosa, with intent to achieve financial gain.
Ramasiga has pleaded not guilty to all charges. The trial, which began on July 21, 2025, is set for three days and has already seen the State call five witnesses and submit 18 exhibits. Magistrate Daurewa remarked that the evidence covers all elements of the alleged offenses, which puts Ramasiga’s defense under considerable scrutiny.
This case underscores the ongoing fight against corruption in Fiji, aligning with broader efforts to maintain accountability and integrity within public service roles. Such trials are essential for reinforcing public trust in governmental institutions and ensuring ethical governance practices are upheld. As the legal proceedings continue, they offer an opportunity for justice to prevail and for officials to be held accountable for their actions.
