Paul Anka, the legendary singer-songwriter, has expressed his unwavering passion for music at the age of 84, emphasizing that he has no plans to retire. In a recent conversation with People, Anka discussed his nearly seven-decade career in show business and shared the joyful reasons behind his decision to continue performing and writing.

Anka stated, “I know what retirement is. I don’t want to retire. Let’s say I do 75 days a year. I got the rest of the year to do what the hell I want. I get to write. I got my things. This is so much fun. If you can’t have fun in life or in a job that you’re doing, don’t do it.” He highlighted that adapting to the changing landscape of music has been essential to his longevity, crediting his success as a writer for keeping him relevant.

Reflecting on his daring move to release a covers album, “Rock Swings,” in 2005, Anka shared that he faced skepticism from others who believed it would harm his reputation. However, he confidently pursued his vision, saying, “I’ve been swinging for 50 years. You want me to swing again? You got to keep on keeping on in life.”

Anka is slated to embark on a tour in March 2026, underscoring his enduring love for live performances. “The moment you’re on there… you’re doing something unlike most things. To see the energy that comes back from all those people… every night is just better than the other,” he expressed. After his shows, he enjoys relaxing by watching hockey games and reading, reflecting on the balanced life he leads.

During a December 2025 appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, Anka also reminisced about composing Frank Sinatra’s 1969 classic “My Way,” recalling the iconic singer’s encouraging reaction: “Kid, listen to this.”

Anka’s continued enthusiasm for his craft serves as an inspiration, proving that passion and creativity can transcend age, and showing that there are no limits to what one can achieve when driven by love for their work.
