New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who has been instrumental in the success of Pro Bowl quarterback Drake Maye, has been accused of felony strangulation, according to records from a Massachusetts court released on Tuesday. The allegations also include a misdemeanor assault charge associated with an incident that reportedly took place on December 2, just a day after the Patriots secured a victory against the New York Giants on “Monday Night Football.”

Diggs, 32, is scheduled for arraignment on January 23, which coincidentally falls two days prior to the AFC Championship Game. In response to the allegations, the Patriots released a statement affirming their awareness of the situation. “Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations,” the statement read. The Patriots expressed their support for Diggs, emphasizing their commitment to gathering more information and cooperating fully with the relevant authorities and the NFL.

This season, Diggs has played a vital role in the Patriots’ campaign, participating in all 16 games and recording 82 catches for 970 yards, making him a primary target for Maye. His impressive career also includes significant achievements during his previous tenures with the Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills, where he topped 1,000 receiving yards for six consecutive seasons.

As the Patriots strive to secure the AFC’s top seed, their regular season concludes on Sunday with a game against the Miami Dolphins. The NFL has acknowledged awareness of the situation and confirmed they are in communication with the club, but has not issued any further comments.

In a personal note, Diggs recently celebrated the arrival of a newborn son with girlfriend and rapper Cardi B, adding a joyful chapter to his life as he navigates through these legal challenges.
