New England Patriots captain Jabrill Peppers was reportedly arrested on Saturday following an incident at a residence in Braintree.
According to Braintree police, they were dispatched to the location after receiving a disturbance call. The caller indicated that there was a conflict involving two individuals.
Peppers was taken into custody and faces charges of assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation, and possession of a Class B substance believed to be cocaine. Reports indicate that the victim received treatment at the scene.
The Patriots acknowledged the situation in a statement to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, saying they were aware of the ongoing investigation and would refrain from further comments at this time.
Peppers was arraigned in Quincy District Court on Monday, with his next court date scheduled for November 22.
Jabrill Peppers plays as a safety for the New England Patriots and has been with the team since 2022, following his draft by the Cleveland Browns in 2017. The 29-year-old is originally from East Orange, New Jersey, and attended the University of Michigan for college football.
He did not participate in the Patriots’ recent game against the Miami Dolphins due to a shoulder injury. Notably, he is one of the few players who wears a guardian cap—an additional piece of padding for helmets—during regular season games.
In recent years, several Patriots players have faced legal troubles. Kayshon Boutte, a former wide receiver, was arrested in January 2024 for underage gambling and computer fraud while at Louisiana State University; however, those charges were dropped. Jack Jones, a former cornerback, was arrested in June 2023 for gun-related offenses at Logan Airport, which resulted in probation and community service after the charges were dropped.
Former Patriots safety Patrick Chung was arrested in October 2021 on charges of assault and battery involving a family member and vandalism. Joejuan Williams, another former cornerback, faced drug-related charges in January 2020 after a traffic stop, resulting in a no-contest plea and a diversion program. Julian Edelman, a former wide receiver, was arrested for vandalism in January 2020 after allegedly damaging a vehicle; this case was also dismissed.
The most infamous case in recent memory involves former tight end Aaron Hernandez, who was convicted for murder and later died by suicide in 2017. His life and trials are being detailed in the miniseries “American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez.”
