Patrick Beverley Signs with Israeli Team: NBA Future in Doubt

Patrick Beverley had yet to secure a new contract in NBA free agency, prompting the veteran guard to pursue opportunities overseas.

Beverley, 36, is set to sign with Hapoel Tel Aviv BC of the Israeli Basketball Premier League. This information comes directly from Beverley via his “Pat Bev Pod” social media feed.

“They gave me everything I asked for,” Beverley said. “I couldn’t refuse.”

The terms of the contract have not been disclosed. However, the @PatBevPod account on X stated that Beverley was deciding between an NBA veteran minimum contract and what was described as a “historic” contract in Europe.

For a veteran with 12 years in the NBA like Beverley, the minimum salary would be $3.3 million, similar to his pay from last season. It is presumed that the offer from Israel was more lucrative and possibly for a longer duration.

Beverley ended last season with the Milwaukee Bucks after a trade from the Philadelphia 76ers. He averaged six points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists, while shooting 36% from three-point range.

However, Beverley faces a four-game suspension at the start of the 2024-25 season for throwing a basketball at fans during Game 6 of the first-round playoff series against the Indiana Pacers. Additionally, his suspension factors in his refusal to answer questions from an ESPN reporter who did not subscribe to his podcast.

Beverley began his professional career overseas, initially playing in Ukraine, Greece, and Russia before joining the Houston Rockets for the 2012-13 season. His NBA career includes stints with the Los Angeles Clippers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Los Angeles Lakers, and Chicago Bulls.

If Beverley’s NBA career is over, he will have played 666 regular-season games, starting 518 of them, and averaging 8.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. He shot 37% from three-point range.
