Parsons Injured: What’s Next for the Cowboys?

Micah Parsons is scheduled to undergo an MRI on his left ankle after sustaining an injury late in the fourth quarter during the Dallas Cowboys’ 20-15 victory over the New York Giants. With just 3:30 remaining in the game, Parsons expressed uncertainty about the severity of the injury, stating he had iced it and hoped to return next week.

Parsons mentioned that X-rays conducted at MetLife Stadium showed no fractures. Another Cowboys player, DeMarcus Lawrence, also suffered an injury, affecting his right foot during the third quarter. However, he later reassured that he was fine and that his injury was unrelated to previous foot surgeries. Lawrence will also have an MRI on Friday.

During the game, Parsons was hurt while attempting to rush the passer. He collided with center John Michael Schmitz Jr., and guard Greg Van Roten inadvertently fell onto the back of Parsons’ leg. After receiving attention from the medical staff, he was taken off the field on a cart for X-rays, though he managed to take a golf cart to the team bus post-game.

Quarterback Dak Prescott praised Parsons, acknowledging his impactful plays during the game. He expressed hope that the injury wasn’t serious, as Parsons seemed to be in good spirits.

The Cowboys’ overall mood was positive following their win, especially after enduring two consecutive home losses against the New Orleans Saints and the Baltimore Ravens, where their defense struggled against the run, allowing a total of 464 rushing yards in those games. Against the Giants, the Cowboys’ defense limited them to just 26 yards on 24 carries, while Daniel Jones passed for 281 yards and rookie receiver Malik Nabers recorded 115 yards before leaving the game due to a concussion.

In the first half, Prescott threw two touchdown passes, one to CeeDee Lamb and the other to Rico Dowdle. Kicker Brandon Aubrey also continued to impress, successfully converting two of three field goal attempts, including a 60-yarder for the second consecutive game.

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy emphasized the significance of winning on the road and acknowledged the team’s need for continued improvement, even after this victory. The Cowboys will have a 10-day break before facing the Pittsburgh Steelers on October 6, which could be beneficial for Parsons’ recovery.

For Prescott, this win marked his 13th consecutive victory against the Giants, tying for the second-longest winning streak against a single opponent. He recognized the importance of maintaining momentum and the stark difference between a 2-2 record versus 1-3, highlighting the team’s goal to build on this win and stay focused on the process moving forward.
