The Park Board Meeting on September 10, 2024, featured several important decisions that community members should be aware of.
One key highlight was the awarding of a bid to American Security & Gate Company for a fencing replacement project at Rheault Farm Park. Commissioners unanimously approved the bid amounting to $61,450, which was the lowest among two submitted proposals and well within the budgeted figure of $116,500. The project will replace the existing wooden fences along the north and east sides with brown vinyl-coated chain-link fencing. Work is anticipated to commence in mid-October and conclude by the end of that month, though these timelines may be subject to change.
Additionally, the board approved a Memorandum of Understanding Agreement with the City of Fargo for the construction of the Red River Phase II Trail and the Drain 27 Trail Crossing projects, with a 5-0 vote. This collaboration allows for the development of two new segments of shared-use paths, enhancing the city’s pedestrian transportation network. Costs for the shared paths will be divided between the Fargo Park District and the City of Fargo, with the Fargo Park District’s contributions estimated at $143,122 for the Red River Trail Phase II project and $151,558 for the Drain 27 Trail Crossing project, funding which has already been budgeted for 2025.
The board also granted permission for staff to apply for two grants: the Garrison Diversion Conservancy District Recreation Grant and the Outdoor Heritage Fund Grant. These grants will support new recreational facilities and improvements at existing sites, including upgrades at the Anderson Softball Complex.
In addition, the commissioners voted to enact an ordinance concerning camping on public property within the City of Fargo. This ordinance, developed in collaboration with the City, will standardize regulations and enable the Fargo Police Department to enforce camping policies on park property, effective September 11, 2024.
Lastly, during the public budget hearing that followed the meeting, no members of the public attended to speak, and the session was concluded shortly thereafter.
