Daniil Medvedev and Karen Khachanov have shared their observations on this year’s Paris Masters, which has undergone significant changes with a new venue. After 38 years at the Bercy Arena, the tournament has relocated to La Défense Arena, prompting mixed reactions from players.
Khachanov, the 2018 champion, expressed nostalgia for the old court but acknowledged the improved facilities at the new venue. He praised the luxurious appearance of the La Défense Arena, mentioning that it offers a better overall experience compared to the previous location. Khachanov noted the more spacious center court, which can hold 16,500 spectators—a slight increase from the Bercy Arena’s 15,609. He highlighted that the number of practice courts has expanded from three to five, and he appreciated the enhanced food options and general organization of the event.
Medvedev echoed Khachanov’s sentiments, acknowledging the benefits of the larger facilities. He remarked on the increased space in player lounges, locker rooms, and restaurants, stating that these changes would positively impact the players’ experience. Despite being new to the venue, he anticipates that the layout and improvements will contribute to a more enjoyable tournament atmosphere.
On the competition front, Medvedev is currently facing challenges in his quest to qualify for the ATP Finals, sitting in 12th place in the race. After falling to Corentin Moutet in Vienna, his path became steeper; however, he remains determined, emphasizing that his immediate focus is on progressing through the Paris Masters.
When asked about his ATP Finals chances, Medvedev prioritized breaking back into the top 10 but did not dismiss the possibility of qualifying for the finals. He noted that success in Paris is crucial for his aspirations, indicating that reaching at least the semifinals would solidify his hopes. Having qualified for the ATP Finals in each of the last six years, he aims to maintain that streak as he prepares to face Jaume Munar in his opening match.
The Paris Masters promises to be an exciting event with its fresh venue and improved facilities, with players like Medvedev and Khachanov navigating both the changes and the competitive landscape. As the tournament unfolds, fans can look forward to seeing how this new chapter impacts the performances of their favorite athletes on the court.
