Paris 2024’s Spectacular Farewell: A Night of Stars and Surprises

After two and a half weeks of thrilling competitions, it is time to bid farewell to the Paris Olympic Games.

The closing ceremony took place on Sunday at the Stade de France.

As the ceremony commenced, the French national flag was paraded into the stadium, followed by athletes showcasing their country’s colors. French President Emmanuel Macron attended the event alongside his wife, Brigitte, and International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach.

The iconic Olympic rings were assembled and raised above the stage, where dancers performed in vibrant displays. Swiss pianist Alain Roche also entertained the audience during the ceremony.

A notable highlight included the presence of the Winged Victory of Samothrace, which added a historical touch to the proceedings, along with a golden figure performance. Spectacular fireworks lit up the Stade de France sky.

Belgian singer Angèle collaborated with DJ Kavinsky on stage, while the French band Phoenix played a selection of their hits. Japanese athletes participated in the ceremony, celebrating their achievements.

In a dramatic entrance, Tom Cruise descended from the roof in front of one of the stadium entrances. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and American gymnast Simone Biles carried the Olympic flag, showcasing the spirit of the Games.

French singer-songwriter Yseult delivered a rendition of “My Way,” and members of the French Paralympic team proudly displayed their national flag.

The Olympic cauldron was lit in the Tuileries Garden, marking another significant moment in the celebration. French artist Zaho de Sagazan opened the proceedings with a performance of “Sous le Ciel de Paris.”

As the stadium filled with eager spectators, volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure the smooth running of the event. Among the crowd was Sifan Hassan from the Netherlands, cherishing the moment after winning her gold medal in the marathon.

Security forces were also present, patrolling areas near the Eiffel Tower as the festivities unfolded. H.E.R. captivated the audience with her performance during this memorable closing ceremony of Paris 2024.
