Paramount+ is making major moves as it heads into the 2025-2026 season, renewing several original series while also canceling some fan favorites. Notably, the network has decided not to proceed with the 2023 reboot of “Frasier,” which had a two-season run, as well as the crime drama “Happy Face,” which lasted for one season.
Kelsey Grammer, who portrayed the iconic Frasier Crane in both the reboot and the original series, expressed his disappointment regarding the cancellation in a March interview with the New York Post. He criticized Paramount+ for not adequately promoting the show or investing enough in it, suggesting that the reboot may find a “better home” elsewhere. The shifting management at Paramount+ led to decreased enthusiasm for the project, according to Grammer, which contributed to its demise.
The cancellation of “Frasier” and “Happy Face” might leave fans wondering about the future of other shows on the platform. Series like “The Challenge: All Stars,” “The Family Stallone,” “Lioness,” and “RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars” have not yet received renewal or cancellation announcements. Meanwhile, the prequel to “Yellowstone,” titled “1923,” concluded its run in February after two seasons, hinting at a shift in content strategy from Paramount+.
While some series face an uncertain future, there is good news for fans as several shows have been renewed for the next season. Renewed titles include “MobLand,” “Criminal Minds: Evolution,” “Dexter: Original Sin,” “Mayor of Kingstown,” and others, ensuring a variety of options for viewers.
Additionally, Paramount+ is set to expand its offerings by premiering a new “NCIS” spinoff, “NCIS: Tony & Ziva,” on September 4, featuring beloved characters Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David, played by Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo, respectively.
As Paramount+ continues to develop its programming, there’s a sense of optimism about the new content coming to the platform, even as some beloved shows are bidding farewell. Fans are encouraged to stay tuned for more announcements regarding their favorite series and new arrivals in the coming seasons.
