CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Carolina Panthers quarterback Andy Dalton was involved in a car accident on Tuesday, as confirmed by a team spokesperson.
Dalton, along with his family, was part of the crash that occurred in the afternoon on October 22. The incident took place while they were traveling westbound on Sardis Road, near Providence Road in Southeast Charlotte.
Details regarding the specifics of the crash remain unclear. It is unknown who was driving the vehicle or if other cars were involved. Dalton was in the car with his wife, three children, and their dog. Fortunately, none of them required transportation by emergency medical services.
While Dalton is being evaluated by the team’s medical staff, it has not been disclosed whether he sustained any injuries. Information about the condition of his family members or others involved in the accident has not been provided.
A Panthers spokesperson did not release further details regarding the incident.
Dalton has been serving as the starting quarterback following a surprising decision by first-year head coach Dave Canales to bench Bryce Young, the first overall pick in the 2023 draft. Dalton had a notable three-touchdown performance against the Las Vegas Raiders when he first took over the starting role, but the team has struggled since, currently on a four-game losing streak. Their most recent defeat was a significant 40-7 loss to the Washington Commanders.
In a postgame press conference, Dalton reflected on the team’s struggles, stating, “We have to look ourselves in the mirror and say ‘alright, why do these games keep going like this?’ There are so many little details that we’re going to go back and look at…we have to have things happen a certain way.”
This situation recalls a similar incident about a decade ago when former Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was involved in a car accident near Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
