Charlotte, N.C. – The Carolina Panthers’ quarterback Andy Dalton was involved in a car accident on Tuesday, as confirmed by a team spokesperson.
Dalton and his family were in the vehicle during the incident that took place on the afternoon of October 22 in Charlotte. The accident occurred while Dalton’s car was heading west on Sardis Road, near Providence Road in Southeast Charlotte.
Details regarding the crash are still unclear, including who was driving and whether any other cars were involved. According to the spokesperson, Dalton was traveling with his wife, three children, and their dog, but none of them required transportation by emergency services.
Dalton is currently being assessed by the Panthers’ medical staff, although it is unknown if he sustained any injuries. It remains uncertain if his family or others involved in the crash experienced any injuries as well. The Panthers did not provide further information regarding the situation.
Dalton has been serving as the starting quarterback after head coach Dave Canales decided to bench Bryce Young, the top pick in the 2023 draft. Dalton had a strong start with a three-touchdown performance against the Las Vegas Raiders but has since seen less favorable results, with the team on a four-game losing streak. Their most recent loss was a 40-7 defeat to the Washington Commanders.
In his postgame remarks, Dalton reflected on the team’s struggles, stating, “We have to look ourselves in the mirror and say ‘Alright, why do these games keep going like this?’ We have to examine the many little details that need to be addressed.”
Notably, about a decade ago, former Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was also involved in a car accident near Bank of America Stadium.
