Panthers QB Andy Dalton Involved in Car Accident: What We Know So Far

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Carolina Panthers’ quarterback Andy Dalton was involved in a car accident on Tuesday, as confirmed by a team spokesperson.

Dalton and his family were in a collision on the afternoon of October 22 in Charlotte. Officials noted that Dalton’s vehicle was traveling westbound on Sardis Road near Providence Road when the incident occurred.

Details surrounding the crash are still unclear, including who was driving the vehicle and if other cars were involved. A Panthers spokesperson indicated that Dalton was in the car with his wife, three children, and their dog. Fortunately, none of them required transportation by emergency responders.

Dalton was reportedly being evaluated by the team’s medical staff, but it remains unknown whether he sustained any injuries. Furthermore, there is no information regarding potential injuries to his family or anyone else involved in the crash.

The Panthers spokesperson did not release further details.

Dalton has been the starting quarterback after head coach Dave Canales opted to bench Bryce Young, the first overall pick in the 2023 draft. Although Dalton posted an impressive three-touchdown game against the Las Vegas Raiders initially, the team’s performance has since declined, with a current four-game losing streak, the latest being a 40-7 defeat to the Washington Commanders.

In a postgame interview, Dalton expressed the need for introspection, saying, “We have to look ourselves in the mirror and say ‘alright, why do these games keep going like this?’ There are so many little details that we’re going to go back and look at…we have to have things happen a certain way.”

This incident follows a similar event nearly a decade ago when former Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was injured in a car crash near Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
