The quarterback for the Carolina Panthers, Andy Dalton, was involved in a car accident on Tuesday, as confirmed by a team spokesperson.
Dalton and his family were in a car crash on the afternoon of October 22 in Charlotte. The incident occurred while Dalton’s vehicle was heading westbound on Sardis Road near Providence Road in Southeast Charlotte, according to officials.
Details surrounding the accident are still unclear, including who was driving Dalton’s vehicle and whether any other vehicles were involved. Reports indicate that Dalton was traveling with his wife, three children, and their dog, but none of them required transportation by emergency medical personnel.
Dalton is currently being evaluated by the team’s medical staff, although it has not been disclosed whether he sustained any injuries. Information regarding the potential injuries of his family or any other individuals involved in the crash remains unknown.
A spokesperson for the Panthers did not offer any further details about the incident.
Dalton has been the starting quarterback after head coach Dave Canales made the decision to bench Bryce Young, the top pick in the 2023 draft, earlier in the season. Dalton initially performed well, throwing three touchdowns in his first game back as a starter against the Las Vegas Raiders, but the team’s performance has declined since, leading to a four-game losing streak. Their latest defeat was a significant 40-7 loss to the Washington Commanders last weekend.
“We have to look ourselves in the mirror and say ‘alright, why do these games keep going like this?’” Dalton said during the postgame press conference. “There are many little details we need to analyze… things need to happen a certain way.”
Approximately ten years ago, former Panthers quarterback Cam Newton also experienced injuries from a car crash near Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
