Panthers place Chuba Hubbard on rest day as calf injury prompts cautious approach

The Carolina Panthers’ Wednesday practice featured a notable absence as running back Chuba Hubbard was estimated as a non-participant due to a calf injury. This injury arose shortly before the team’s recent game against the New England Patriots, raising concerns about Hubbard’s availability moving forward.

Head coach Dave Canales addressed the media after practice, emphasizing the necessity of careful management for Hubbard’s condition. “The calf needs more treatment. The calf needs more time,” Canales stated. He explained that the team opted to give Hubbard a rest day, prioritizing his long-term health over immediate participation. Canales acknowledged that despite the injury, Hubbard played well in the game against the Patriots, contributing significantly to the team’s offense with 10 of the team’s 28 carries during the 42-13 loss.

Canales noted that while Hubbard had performed at a high level, the decision to rest him was taken to ensure he had the best chance to recover fully. “We just didn’t feel like he wasn’t in a better spot coming out of the game than he was the week before. So we’re gonna treat that day to day,” he added.

As the Panthers prepare for their next matchup, the management of Hubbard’s injury will play a crucial role in the team’s offensive strategies moving forward. Keeping their key players healthy will be vital for the Panthers as they look to improve their standing this season.
