Enzo Maresca has provided an update on Cole Palmer’s fitness leading up to Chelsea’s match against Burnley this weekend. As the Blues prepare for their Saturday lunchtime fixture at Turf Moor, they aim to build on their recent 3-0 victory over Wolves. A win against Scott Parker’s Clarets could see Chelsea temporarily climb to second place in the Premier League, pending Manchester City’s match with Newcastle later that day.
During a media briefing, Maresca addressed Palmer’s situation first, confirming that the England international, who has been out since September with a groin injury, will not be available for the upcoming matches. Unfortunately, Palmer sustained a toe injury at home just two days prior, which has delayed his return.
“Cole won’t be available for tomorrow, no,” Maresca stated. “He suffered an accident at home where he hit his toe. It’s fractured, which is disappointing, but these things can happen. It’s nothing too serious, but it’s causing him some pain, so he won’t be available for this week or next. He was very close to being back from his groin issue, but this toe problem has set him back.”
On a more positive note, Maresca shared encouraging news regarding other squad members. Benoit Badiashile is ready to return after injury and could feature against Burnley. Additionally, Moises Caicedo has returned from international duty without any issues, and both Enzo Fernandez and Pedro Neto are available for selection as well.
“Moi came back last night. I haven’t seen him yet, but I’ve been told he’s okay and he will train today. Benoit is back and he’s available for tomorrow, which is very good news for us,” Maresca added. “Enzo and Pedro used the international break to recover from some minor issues and restore their energy levels. They are both okay and available for tomorrow’s game.”
As the team gears up for the match, the return of key players like Badiashile, coupled with the availability of Fernandez and Neto, offers a boost to Chelsea’s squad as they strive for a successful outing against Burnley.
