Chelsea winger Tyrique George missed out on a move to Fulham on the last day of the transfer window, but there are indications he could still find a new home in London. Reports suggest that Crystal Palace is interested in acquiring the 19-year-old when the transfer market reopens in January.
As Chelsea considers the future of their academy graduate, owner Todd Boehly should contemplate including a buy-back clause in any potential deal. This strategy proved successful when the club sold Tammy Abraham to AS Roma four years ago, as a buy-back option allowed Chelsea to retain a potential pathway to re-signing the striker. Despite not exercising that option with Abraham, a similar approach for George could be beneficial.
George has demonstrated considerable potential, marked by his ability to score crucial goals for Chelsea. His recent performances include a striking contribution in a thrilling 4-3 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, as well as an important equalizer in their Carabao Cup clash against Lincoln City. Notably, his last season’s goal against Fulham was pivotal, establishing his knack for delivering in high-stakes scenarios.
Head coach Enzo Maresca has shown a strong belief in George, handing him his first-team debut last season. Since then, the forward has made 34 appearances across competitions, showcasing his versatility by playing both wide and up front. Maresca expressed his satisfaction with George’s progress, highlighting his ongoing contributions to the team.
While Chelsea is open to the possibility of George’s departure, it appears Maresca would prefer the young talent to remain at Stamford Bridge. Should Chelsea decide to sell George with an option to bring him back, it may foster a balance of giving the player experience while keeping the door open for his future at the club.
