Padres’ Miller, Guardians’ Smith Capture Reliever of the Month Honors

Mason Miller has been honored with his second career Reliever of the Month Award, marking his inaugural win with the San Diego Padres. Previously, Miller achieved this feat while with the Oakland Athletics in March/April 2024. His achievement makes him the eighth Padres reliever to secure this accolade, joining the likes of Hall of Famer Trevor Hoffman, who won it three times, and recent awardees such as Josh Hader in April 2023 and Robert Suarez, who has earned the title twice in recent bouts.

In a notable achievement for the Cleveland Guardians, reliever Jayden Smith has secured his first career recognition in only his second season with the team. Smith stands as the third Guardians reliever to earn this acknowledgment, aligning with past winners Cody Allen and Emmanuel Clase, the latter having clinched it an impressive seven times.

With Smith’s recent award, the Guardians’ bullpen has now accumulated nine Reliever of the Month titles, positioning them as third overall in total recognitions, following Milwaukee’s 14 and San Diego’s 12. Smith also enhances his profile by joining the ranks of Canadian-born relievers who have earned the award, a group that includes Ryan Dempster and John Axford, among others.

These accolades highlight the exceptional talent and hard work within both the Padres and Guardians’ bullpens. They not only celebrate individual brilliance but also underscore the depth and prowess of each team’s relief pitching strategies. As baseball continues to evolve, these recognitions serve as a testament to the vital role relievers play in the sport, offering hope and excitement for upcoming games and seasons.
