On Saturday, October 25, 2025, the Paddle for Cancer event will bring together paddlers from the Nadi Bay Canoe Club (NBCC) and staff from various resorts, including Castaway Island Resort, Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort, and Six Senses Fiji, for a transformative 36-kilometer ocean race from Castaway Island Resort to Aquarius on the Beach, Wailoaloa. This event not only serves as a formidable challenge for participants but also acts as a rallying point to support the fight against cancer in Fiji.
Entering its second year, Paddle for Cancer has experienced a remarkable growth, fueled by community spirit, dedication, and a commitment to honor the legacy of Christian Pesamino, a valued former member of the NBCC who succumbed to leukaemia at a young age. His memory continues to inspire this initiative, benefitting the Christian Pesamino Leukaemia Foundation, which aims to provide compassionate support for those affected by cancer across the nation.
The upcoming event is a culmination of months of rigorous training and teamwork, showcasing the camaraderie between the NBCC and participating resorts. Over the past weeks, volunteers, paddlers, and sponsors have collectively prepared, undertaking early morning practice sessions and cross-resort training to ensure a successful paddle.
As the paddlers set out this Saturday morning, each stroke of the paddle will serve as a message of hope, unity, and remembrance. The ocean presents not merely a race course, but a symbol of resilience, demonstrating what communities can achieve when they come together for a common cause.
Organizers have extended their gratitude to everyone involved in making Paddle for Cancer a reality — from sponsors to volunteers who have dedicated their time and energy. The event is also welcoming support through various sponsorship levels and direct donations, encouraging the community to join in fostering hope and change in the battle against cancer.
Participants and supporters can explore different ways to contribute, from bronze sponsorships starting at $250 to sponsoring $10 per kilometer of the 36-kilometer course. There’s even an option for direct donations through the “Paddle For Cancer” bank account or a GoFundMe link.
As Paddle for Cancer approaches, it stands as a profound reminder of the power of collective action in the ongoing fight against cancer, emphasizing that united, communities can create lasting positive change.
