On Saturday, October 25, 2025, the Paddle for Cancer event is set to unite paddlers from the Nadi Bay Canoe Club (NBCC) alongside staff from prominent resorts such as Castaway Island Resort, Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort, and Six Senses Fiji. This inspiring 36-kilometer ocean race will take participants from Castaway Island Resort to Aquarius on the Beach in Wailoaloa, serving both as a challenging athletic pursuit and a crucial support mechanism for the fight against cancer in Fiji.
Now entering its second year, Paddle for Cancer has witnessed remarkable growth, driven by a passionate community, unwavering dedication, and a commitment to honoring the legacy of Christian Pesamino. A treasured former member of the NBCC, Pesamino tragically lost his battle with leukaemia at a young age, and his memory continues to inspire this important initiative. The event benefits the Christian Pesamino Leukaemia Foundation, which strives to provide compassionate support to those affected by cancer throughout the country.
The upcoming race is the result of months of dedicated training and collaboration, showcasing the strong bonds formed between the NBCC and participating resorts. In recent weeks, volunteers, paddlers, and sponsors have engaged in early morning practice sessions and cross-resort training, all in preparation for a successful event.
As the paddlers embark on this journey Saturday morning, each stroke of the paddle will symbolize hope, unity, and remembrance. The ocean serves not just as a racecourse but as a powerful symbol of resilience, illustrating the remarkable achievements communities can realize when they unite for a shared cause.
The organizing committee extends heartfelt thanks to all those who have contributed to making Paddle for Cancer a reality, acknowledging the vital role of sponsors and volunteers who have devoted their time and energy. The initiative is welcoming further support through multiple sponsorship levels and direct donations, inviting the community to join in fostering hope and instigating change in the battle against cancer.
Participants and supporters have various avenues to contribute, including bronze sponsorships starting at $250 or sponsoring $10 per kilometer of the 36-kilometer course. Donations can also be made directly via the “Paddle For Cancer” bank account or through a GoFundMe link.
As Paddle for Cancer draws near, it serves as a powerful reminder of the strength of collective action in the ongoing fight against cancer, highlighting the potential for communities to effect meaningful and lasting positive change when they come together.
