Pacquiao to Lead Filipino Team on Netflix’s Physical: Asia as Mayweather Rematch Talks Surface

Manny Pacquiao has landed a new role as a team leader on a Netflix reality TV show, all while ongoing discussions for a highly anticipated rematch with Floyd Mayweather continue. Pacquiao confirmed earlier this week that negotiations are taking place regarding a possible clash with Mayweather, suggesting that a rematch of their legendary 2015 encounter may be on the horizon.

In an exciting twist, Netflix is reportedly interested in promoting this potential boxing showdown. As part of his new role, Pacquiao will lead the Filipino team on the show “Physical: Asia,” which features 48 athletes from across the continent competing in various physically demanding events. The show showcases teams from countries including Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea, Japan, Turkey, Mongolia, and Australia, with Pacquiao recognized as the standout name on the program.

The show promises thrilling challenges, such as sinking ships and fortress-style contests, set in an expansive arena the size of five football fields. It is a spin-off of the popular South Korean show “Physical: 100,” and offers a substantial prize of 1 billion Korean won, equivalent to approximately £531,000 or $700,000, for the winning teams.

The initial four episodes are already available for streaming, with eight more set to follow in the coming weeks. Discussing his involvement, Pacquiao expressed enthusiasm about the challenges ahead, stating, “We have strength, we have speed, and we have plans… I’m excited to be here at Physical Asia because I know the challenge here is very tough and very competitive.”

Regarding the rematch with Mayweather, Pacquiao acknowledged the negotiations, mentioning, “There is a talk… I’m happy to start talking about a possible rematch with Floyd.” This comes as Mayweather gears up for a high-profile exhibition bout against boxing legend Mike Tyson, which complicates scheduling for a rematch.

As fans await the potential showdown, Pacquiao’s new role on Netflix adds another dimension to his already remarkable career, illustrating his versatility and continued relevance in both boxing and entertainment.
