Packers Wide Receiver Romeo Doubs Suspended: What’s Next?

The Green Bay Packers are facing issues with wide receiver Romeo Doubs, who did not participate in practice on Thursday and Friday. As a result, the team has suspended Doubs for one game, citing that his “decisions and actions” were negatively impacting the team.

Initially, Doubs was deemed doubtful for the Packers’ Week 5 game against the Los Angeles Rams due to personal reasons. However, it has come to light that Doubs is dissatisfied with his role in the team’s offense, leading him to skip practice. Consequently, he will miss the upcoming game.

Through the first four weeks of the season, the 24-year-old wide receiver has recorded 20 targets, placing him second on the team, just behind Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks, who have 22 targets apiece. Doubs was a fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and has been a reliable receiver since then, accumulating 113 receptions for 1,268 yards and 11 touchdowns over 34 games. He is under contract until 2025, with a base salary of $1.1 million.

With concerns about Doubs’ role and productivity, speculation about a potential trade has begun. While teams have inquired about Doubs’ availability, the Packers have not shown interest in moving him at this time. Nonetheless, if the situation worsens, it could lead to possible trade scenarios.

Several teams may be interested in Doubs if he becomes available. The Kansas City Chiefs, looking to bolster their receiving corps after Rashee Rice’s knee injury, could see Doubs as a quick fit alongside Patrick Mahomes. The Pittsburgh Steelers have been searching for a wide receiver and may find Doubs a suitable option to complement George Pickens. The Dallas Cowboys, in need of another playmaker opposite CeeDee Lamb, could also explore acquiring Doubs to enhance their offense.

The New York Jets could be another landing spot, especially with Aaron Rodgers having played with Doubs in Green Bay, making the possibility of a reunion appealing. The New England Patriots, struggling in the wide receiver department, might see Doubs as a valuable young addition to their rebuilding offense.

Lastly, the Washington Commanders could benefit from Doubs as they look to support Terry McLaurin and build momentum in the NFC East. Given the current standings, investing in a player like Doubs could provide the necessary boost for their offensive efforts.
