Packers Seal the Deal: Rookie Tackle Joins the Lineup!

The Green Bay Packers announced that they have finalized the signing of second-round offensive tackle Anthony Belton to a four-year rookie contract, marking the completion of their rookie signings for this draft class. Belton, who was the last of the Packers’ rookies to sign, brings a unique background to the team.

Belton started his football journey unranked out of high school in Tallahassee, Florida, before taking the junior college route at Georgia Military College. There, he gained valuable experience and recognition, becoming a three-star prospect with offers from several notable programs including Houston and TCU. He eventually committed to NC State, where he experienced a transformative journey, redshirting his first year to build strength and improve in preparation for his collegiate career.

In his time at NC State, Belton began as a left tackle, taking over the position after the departure of first-round pick Ikem Ekwonu. While his initial season as a starter was rocky, he showed significant improvement in subsequent years, adding to his experience and skill set.

With the Packers, Belton finds himself amidst a similar pattern the team has established in recent drafts, where they have drafted left tackles in the first two rounds for consecutive years. However, there are indications that he may also transition to other positions, much like last year’s first-round pick Jordan Morgan, who played various roles on the offensive line despite being drafted as a tackle. Early reports show Belton has been working at both right tackle and guard during training camp.

Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 336 pounds, Belton possesses a formidable stature that makes him challenging for defenders to handle. His strength and aggressive blocking style could see him playing a pivotal role in the Packers’ offensive line in the coming seasons as he develops alongside Morgan.

With Belton signing, the Packers have officially wrapped up their rookie draft class, now focusing on integrating their new talents into the team’s strategy for the upcoming season. The future looks promising for Green Bay’s offensive line as they continue to build around young, talented players.
