Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka underscored the vital role of secretaries in government during a welcoming dinner for the Pacific Heads of Prime Minister’s Departments at Suva’s Grand Pacific Hotel. He highlighted that these senior officials act as principal advisers to heads of government and play a crucial part in ensuring that public policies are aligned with the realities faced by citizens.

The gathering, aimed at enhancing regional cooperation, brought together senior officials from across the Pacific Island countries. Their goal is to promote unity and good governance, support the implementation of regional priorities, and foster mentorship and capacity building. Prime Minister Rabuka emphasized that the senior officials are essential in coordinating policy formulation and ensuring effective delivery, addressing real issues that impact the quality of life for the people of the Pacific.

The Prime Minister called attention to the increasing public demand for accountability, transparency, and responsiveness from leaders in the region, stating, “The lessons we have learned are not just for us; they are meant to be shared.” He reiterated Fiji’s commitment to a rule-based international order and the significance of multilateral cooperation among Pacific nations, reinforcing the idea that despite the region’s small size, their collective faith and determination serve as their greatest strengths.

During his address, Rabuka also mentioned the importance of the “Ocean of Peace Declaration,” which reflects the collective values of the Pacific nations. He encouraged the delegates to engage in meaningful discussions that will yield tangible outcomes for the region, emphasizing that their roles are pivotal in shaping the future in a cohesive and resilient manner.
