Pacific Public Service Chiefs Gather in Suva for FONO 2025 to Forge a Future-Ready, United Governance

FONO 2025 commenced in Suva today, gathering Heads of Public Service from sixteen Pacific Island nations for a week-long dialogue focused on governance, leadership, and preparing a future-ready public sector. Participants include delegations from Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Papua New Guinea, Kiribati, Cook Islands, Tuvalu, and other Pacific countries, with observers from Australia and New Zealand joining the discussions.

During the opening address, Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Filimoni Vosarogo underscored the unique governance challenges faced by each Pacific nation, while emphasizing the importance of unity and collaborative problem-solving as core strengths of the Blue Pacific. He highlighted that collective efforts are paramount to foster resilient institutions across the region.

Fiji Public Service Commission Chairman Luke Rokovada echoed this sentiment, noting that this year’s Fono closely aligns with the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent. His remarks focused on the enduring vision for cooperation, accountability, and a robust public sector that responds adeptly to the evolving needs of the region.

Deputy Commissioner of the Public Service Fale, Tania Ott, encouraged leaders to utilize the Fono to reconnect and enhance their capabilities. She emphasized that shared learning and cooperation are foundational to improving public service delivery for communities across the Pacific.

As the Fiji Public Service Commission hosts this significant event, FONO 2025 will take place from November 17 to 20. Over these four days, participants will delve into various topics, including digital transformation, ethical governance, leadership development, and fostering inclusive workplaces. Interactive sessions are designed to promote candid dialogue and evidence-based discussions, ultimately aiming to strengthen public institutions within the region.
