Sixty-four graduates from the Navua campus of Pacific Polytech were honored at their inaugural graduation ceremony, celebrating their accomplishments in fields such as agriculture, carpentry, software application, and information and communications technology (ICT). The event, which celebrated the Class of 2025, was attended by dignitaries and faculty members who recognized the significance of this achievement for both the graduates and Fiji’s economy.

Sakiusa Tubuna, Assistant Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, underscored the ceremony’s importance, stating that the graduates’ diverse skills would greatly contribute to Fiji’s growth in trade and various sectors including infrastructure, digital transformation, and agriculture. “This marks the beginning of contribution towards Fiji’s trade and skills,” Mr. Tubuna remarked, emphasizing how the graduates can make a positive impact on the economy.

Peni Taoi, the director of Pacific Polytech, shared similar views, focusing on the institution’s commitment to improving living standards through skill enhancement. He recognized that traditional educational methods do not work for everyone, thus underscoring the importance of vocational training that Pacific Polytech provides.

Mr. Taoi also urged governmental support for initiatives aimed at helping school dropouts obtain vital trade certifications. This call to action highlights the institution’s efforts to bridge the educational gap between university and vocational training, ensuring opportunities for all students.

Further engaging future students, Mr. Taoi encouraged prompt applications for upcoming programs, reminding them to ensure their details are accurate and up-to-date. With classes expected to begin on January 19, 2026, he urged prospective students to explore available funding options, such as the Tertiary Student Loans Scheme (TSLS), to assist them in their educational pursuits.

The graduation ceremony not only highlighted individual achievements but also represented a collective stride towards strengthening Fiji’s workforce. This effort fosters optimism for a future equipped with skilled professionals ready to tackle the challenges within various industries.
