A prominent leader in the Pacific region has made a significant career move, resigning from her role at the University of the South Pacific to take on a key position at a newly emerging educational institution. Dr. Manumatavai Tupou-Roosen, who previously served as the acting Deputy Vice Chancellor, has now joined the Pasifika Communities University (PCU) in Suva.

With three decades of expertise in fisheries and ocean governance, Dr. Tupou-Roosen will spearhead the PCU School of Ecology and Resilience Development. Her extensive background includes a notable tenure as the Director-General of the Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency, marking her as the first woman to occupy that leadership position. Throughout her career, she has garnered respect both regionally and internationally for her contributions and leadership.

In her new role at Pasifika Communities University, Dr. Tupou-Roosen aims to bolster sustainable development initiatives in the Pacific Islands, focusing on environmental stewardship and innovative development strategies grounded in the resilience and cultural values of Pasifika communities. She holds a PhD in Law from the University of Nottingham, England, and her educational background further complements her vision for fostering ecological awareness and community-based development practices.
