Pacers Eye Kuminga Trade as Mathurin and Walker Futures Stir Plans

The Indiana Pacers are reportedly exploring a major trade possibility as they confront the challenges of the 2025-26 season. The focus is on acquiring Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga, who has had a tumultuous time with his current team.

Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints has indicated that the Pacers have been monitoring Kuminga since the start of the 2024-25 season and are considering a deal that may involve promising player Bennedict Mathurin. Mathurin’s dynamic athleticism could be a valuable asset to the Warriors’ veteran lineup, which features Hall of Famers Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green.

Siegel highlights that the Pacers appear interested in maximizing the value of Mathurin and former first-round pick Jarace Walker due to their upcoming contract situations. With an eye on the future, the organization seems poised to trade Mathurin ahead of the February 5 trade deadline, especially as they anticipate securing a top-5 pick in the upcoming draft.

Despite failing to reach a long-term contract extension with Indiana before the offseason deadline, Mathurin has shown considerable potential this season. In 10 games, he has averaged a career-best 21.1 points, alongside 5.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists, all while shooting impressively from the field. After establishing himself as a key player during Indiana’s successful 2024-25 season, Mathurin’s role has shifted to a starting position following the Achilles injury to the prolific point guard Tyrese Haliburton.

On the other hand, Kuminga has faced challenges in finding his place within the Warriors’ system. A fresh start with the Pacers could benefit both him and Mathurin, providing each with the opportunity to thrive in a new environment.

With strategic moves anticipated in the coming months, the Pacers are keen to reshape their roster and solidify their position for future seasons.
