Pacers Add Veteran Monte Morris Amid Haliburton’s Absence

Veteran point guard Monte Morris has signed a one-year, non-guaranteed contract with the Indiana Pacers, according to reports. With the Pacers having 13 players on fully guaranteed contracts, Morris still has the opportunity to secure a position on the opening night roster, although a corresponding roster move would be necessary due to the team’s full camp roster.

The Pacers are adjusting to the anticipated season-long absence of Tyrese Haliburton, with Andrew Nembhard and T.J. McConnell projected to occupy the primary point guard roles. Morris is expected to provide valuable depth and experience to the roster, serving as an insurance policy for the team’s backcourt.

Morris, 30, has previously contributed to several NBA teams, including the Phoenix Suns last season, where he played 45 games and averaged 5.2 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in just under 13 minutes per game. His overall NBA career spans 420 regular season games across various teams like Denver, Washington, Detroit, and Minnesota, boasting averages of 9.5 points and 3.6 assists in 23.4 minutes per game. His shooting efficiency—47.4 percent from the field and 38.9 percent from three-point range—demonstrates his ability to effectively contribute offensively.

By adding Morris, the Pacers not only increase their depth but also introduce a seasoned veteran who can bring stability and leadership to the team’s young backcourt. While the effects of Haliburton’s absence could be felt, Morris’s presence aims to cushion the impact and maintain competitiveness in their lineup.
